The signature red roof of Lehighton’s newest eating establishment is only one of the unique features. Both inside and out, this restaurant is GREEN….not in color but in energy efficient lighting! Built to both showcase the products of Light Green LLC and for energy efficiency, owner Frank Potoczak is planning to provide a working example for both residents and businesses as to the positive impact of LED lighting.

Although Europe seems to be ahead of the US in energy efficiency conscientiousness and application, the stimulus package offered through President Obama offers money for infrastructure investment and green, energy efficiency is included. According to a May 29th article in the New York Times by article Rosenthal and Barringer on LED lighting, San Jose California plans to use $2 million in energy efficiency grants to install 1500 LED streetlights.

What is LED lighting and how does it work?

LED or Light Emitting Diode is a device which converts electricity into light. Although LED lighting has been around since the 1960s, it is just now gaining momentum for both residential and business lighting. This is due in part to changes in the device to emit white light from a single diode and the global warming/energy efficiency concerns.

LEDs can place light in a single direction which encourages their use in multiple ways: strip lights under counters, display cases, hallways , staircases or art lighting. They can be used outdoors as well – in gardens, walkways, front or garage doors. LEDs are more damage-resistant than compact fluorescents and incandescent bulbs and they don’t flicker.

Whether you visit Castle Grill by day or by night, you will see “green” in action. And, what you see is available locally as Light Green LLC covers residential and business installations throughout northeast PA.
